      I’ve wrestled w/ sw dev staff about this for years. I feel this is mostly an issue about how the UI is conceived. Most apps don’t capture enough context from the user during first/early use about the user’s goals. Having more of this context allows the app to more explicitly guide the user to make sure he/she is “making progress” in using the app. The app should also be smart enough to recognize when a user is no longer a neophyte and to offer appropriate level of guidance when needed by the user.
