   And there’s no single objective at the end of the path, either. “Big company job” is going the way of the dodo. More and more, there are small company job, nonprofit job, government job, and freelance/contract job.

     Good point. I hadn’t considered this. It’s especially true among millennials, who look for meaning and purpose in work instead of company solidarity and pay, as the baby boomers did.
