Maisie's peak and more

It's been way too long since I've updated this blog. I am trying to get back into the habit.

I'm not sure where to start, so I decided to just upload some pictures and add some captions.

We ride to school pretty regularly, so this is what it looks like at about 7:45am. Avery likes to ride alone, though, and when I said, Okay, let's roll on out, she sighed and waited for us to leave before rolling out herself.

Lucy earned a PAW award at school. Funny that the reason for the award said "Conscious," no doubt intending to spell it "Conscientious." She was so happy. Since I ride the kids to school, and the assembly was in the morning, I got to be the attending parent. It felt pretty cool to be there for her.

Molly is attending preschool MWF from 8:30 to 1:30 as a "typical peer" or role model for a class of autistic children. Apparently it's a program here. Each class has 2 typical peers that the other kids interact with. She loves it. She is learning the alphabet here.

Our work took us out to a San Francisco Giants game. Fun event, but boring game. We left by the 6th inning. The ride into the city took forever. 1 hour getting there, 1.5 getting back. But good discussions with colleagues.

This is Old Fremont Open Preserve in San Jose. Not sure why iPhone's "Photo" option gives everything a green tint.

This is the vista using iPhone's panorama feature from Maisie's peak. What you don't see are the hundreds of flies swarming my sweaty legs here.

Don't you love the way this mountain biker is positioned right beside a mountain lion and bobcat? I want a sign like this hanging in my house. Cool by mere juxtaposition.

Maisie's Peak is really hard to find. The trails zig zag like spaghetti all over the place. Shannon and I never found this on an earlier expedition. I was pleasantly surprised to come across it.

I passed this bike grave on the side of the road. Two tombstones for people around the age of 30. One of the gravestone sayings, " Free from limitations and imaginary lines." I like that.

Other details

A long time ago, I had an idea for this blog. I was going to call it "Adventure Walking." But then I found that it was too difficult to put together adventure walks, and I ended up rebranding it "I'd Rather Be Telling Stories."

I think there's a lot of value in adventure outings. Today I rode down to the Old Fremont Open Space preserve, then rode along the Coyote Ridge Trail out to Stevens Creek County Park and up and around back to our house. It was about a 25 mile ride. I had a fun time exploring the trail system in the Open Preserve. I love discovering new places, even when they're so close to home. I want to get back into that sense of discovery.

I'm not exactly sure why the sense of discovery is so exhilarating -- it just is. I don't get the same sense of satisfaction when playing basketball.
